Read posts about the pillar of Goodness

God is good because He is righteous. His ways are perfect (Psalm 18:30). In Matthew 19:17 Jesus says there is only one who is good, and He is referring to God. God’s will is good; His decisions are good; His acts toward us are good. Everything God does is good (Job 38:27). In spite of all the hardship and discomfort Job experienced, he remained confident in God’s goodness. Job cursed the day he was born, wanted to die and mourned his life, but he never sinned against God by denying God’s sovereignty and goodness.  We question if God is good because we believe He should fix all the broken things in us and in the world. Sometimes we believe God is good only when His actions line up with what we expect Him to do. We do not have the ability to know what God knows or the capability to fix it in the best way, as God can. There are times when God disciplines us and it can be unpleasant. These times can be marked by adverse circumstances, frustration and irritation; however, anytime God disciplines us it is for our good. He disciplines us because He loves us (Proverbs 3:11-12). God also disciplines us to perfect us in His righteousness and likeness. (Hebrews 12:11). He deals with us individually and He knows what we need. If you are making an idol of your possessions, He knows what needs to happen in your life to cause you to get your priorities in order. It could be as simple as you finding your possessions do not bring you as much joy as they used to or you could start losing them one by one. God is with us and doesn’t leave us alone during these times. He also gives us the grace to go through it so we learn the lesson. We trust God to perfect us in His perfect way because we know the results will be good.

If you have questioned God’s goodness because you feel like He is ignoring your pain or the problems in this world, remember one of the best things about the goodness of God is His plan for our redemption. He gave us Jesus as a sacrifice for our sins so that we can live eternally with Him. Also He has a plan to give us a hope and a future. He will never leave us or forsake us. He will be with us in difficult times. God is so eager to talk with you and desires a relationship with you. Turn to him and ask for His comfort. You will be reminded of His goodness!
